Our Award-Winning Work
Our primary goal is to create and maintain therapeutic and wellbeing gardens, primarily in clinical settings. The gardens also provide the opportunity for anyone from the local community, regardless of age or ability, to volunteer in the gardens, thereby improving their physical and mental health through a meaningful physical activity outdoors, and preventing social isolation and loneliness through engagement in a social activity.
We also plan to improve health further through growing fresh fruit and vegetables for free distribution. We are collaborating with health professionals to reverse type II diabetes and alleviate other chronic physical and mental health conditions and assist patients in their rehabilitation and recuperation through diet and exercise.

2026 Social Farms & Gardens Community Management Award
We are honoured to have won the 2026 Award for North East Wales / Gogledd-ddwyrain Cymru.
The Social Farms & Gardens Community Management Awards (CLAS Awards) began in 2019 and are run by SF&G to acknowledge the community management of green spaces. Projects like these are valuable for both people and nature.
Thank you to all the hard-working volunteers who give up their spare time for their local environment and community.
2026/27 Keep Wales Tidy Cadwch Gymru'n Daclus Green Flags
We were honoured to win two 2026/27 Keep Wales Tidy - Cadwch Gymru'n Daclus Green Flags.
We have been awarded for both the hospital gardens and the community garden near the staff accommodation at Bron y Nant.
This award recognises green spaces that are cared for at a time when access to green spaces has never been more important. These spaces enhance the lives and experience of both hardworking hospital staff and vulnerable patients and their families.
Celebration Speech for the Green Flag Award
"Good afternoon everyone,
Today we are here for a very special reason: to congratulate Wrexham Community Gardeners on achieving the prestigious Green Flag Award and to celebrate the incredible work that has been undertaken so far.
The Green Flag Award is a nationally recognised benchmark for excellence in green space management. It recognises quality, sustainability, community involvement, and the creation of welcoming environments that enhance people's health and wellbeing. To receive this award is a tremendous achievement and one that everyone involved should be immensely proud of.
Since becoming a registered charity in January 2024 and beginning work at the hospital in June 2024, Wrexham Community Gardeners have made an extraordinary impact.
What started as a plan to renovate a few courtyards has grown into a much wider programme of improvement across the hospital estate. Through the dedication of volunteers, more than 12,000 bulbs and 4,000 plants have been planted. Courtyards and garden areas that were once underused have been transformed into vibrant, welcoming spaces for patients, visitors, and staff. The work has extended well beyond the original plans, reaching numerous locations across the hospital and creating environments that support recovery, wellbeing, and reflection.
Today, we particularly want to recognise Ruth, Tom, and Margaret for their vision, leadership, and commitment. Their passion has inspired others to get involved and has helped build a team that embodies the very best of community spirit. They have shown what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose and a determination to make a positive difference.
We also celebrate the entire Wrexham Community Gardeners team, whose hard work, enthusiasm, and countless volunteer hours have made this success possible. Every weed pulled, every bulb planted, every bed prepared, and every new volunteer welcomed has contributed"
